The clients, a couple with a small child seeking tranquility for their day to day life, decided to build a house in a closed condominium, in a city near Porto Alegre. In spite of the choice of this refuge, they like to give parties and receive friends at home.Save this picture!© Pedro KokSave this picture!© Pedro KokThe land chosen by them is located in a gated community, bordering an ecological reserve and a river. The view, through the river, is the skyline of the city of Porto Alegre, but is blocked by the mass of vegetation of the reserve. However, from 2.5m height the view is completely clear. Since the area of greatest permanence of the house is the social one, the solution adopted was to reverse the uses – social area above and intimate area below.Save this picture!© Pedro KokIn the main access of the house, a hall creates the separation of the spaces. In the ground floor we have five suites plus service area. On the second floor, there is the social area – a large open space with office, living room and dining room connected with a gourmet kitchen (with barbecue and grill). The only closed rooms are the kitchen and a guest toilet.Save this picture!© Pedro KokSave this picture!Section BSave this picture!© Pedro KokThe main highlight is the structure: on the second floor, two blue metal trusses create a 7m cantlever in front of the house – the garage cover. The entire assembly of this structure took, in total, 5 days. The ground floor features concrete structure, with wooden pannels covering, creating privacy for the bedrooms and a visual unity for the base of the house. The coating of the second floor is made of Profilit glass on the east façade and on the west there is drywall with hydraulic floor tiles in a minimalist pattern.Save this picture!© Pedro KokSave this picture!© Pedro KokThe landscaping privileged Brazilian native plants, in an organic and unpretentious composition. GFI covers the bases with provincial grant

first_imgA grant from the province will help the organizing committee of the Grand Forks International Baseball tournament (GFI) succeed next month.  “This is the first time that I know of that the GFI has received provincial funding,” said Joan Thomas, co-ordinator of the tournament. “This is very helpful for the GFI to put on a first class sporting event in such a small community – it really helps the local community and area.”  The GFI will receive $5,000 from the Ministry of Community, Sport, and Cultural Development’s Hosting BC program to help host the Grand Forks International Baseball Tournament. Hosting BC was established in the lead-up to the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. Originally a partnership between the Government of British Columbia, Tourism British Columbia and 2010 Legacies Now, the program is now managed in partnership between the BC Games Society and the Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development.  “This is what the Hosting BC program is all about – supporting great local events like Grand Forks’ international baseball tournament.  I can’t think of a better way to spend a summer afternoon,” said Boundary-Similkameen MLA John Slater.  Thomas said that Community Futures Boundary told them about the granting program that assists with operational costs and although they applied in December the GFI was not initially successful. Their April application was approved. The GFI is one of 62 other sporting events across the province that will benefit from over $325,000 in grants. The tournament will take place Sept. 1 – 6 with teams from Australia, Lewiston, Thurston County and crowd favourites San Diego along with teams from across Canada.
