Ryan Thacher’s 31-match winning streak wasn’t halted Sunday. It was just cooled off a little. The Harvard-Westlake of Studio City boys’ tennis standout needed only two more victories at the 62nd annual Fullerton Junior Tournament to capture his fifth consecutive USTA singles title, but rain postponed his 18-under division semifinal match against Ojai’s Ahmed Ismail at La Habra Tennis Center. The tournament is scheduled to resume Feb. 24. Thacher, a junior, had surrendered only eight games in eighttournament sets entering his match against Ismail, whom he defeated 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 (2) in the California Bowl final in Calabasas in December. The Fullerton tournament was the first USTA event the top-seeded Thacher had played since capturing the 18-under title at the USTA Winter Nationals in Scottsdale, Ariz., on Jan.1. Thousand Oaks senior Lauren Ritz and Troy of Fullerton’s Alison Ramos had their semifinal match in the 18-under doubles draw postponed as well. Ritz and Ramos, who captured 18-under title at the Copper Bowl in Tucson last month, are scheduled to face Fairmont Prep of Anaheim’sthe sister tandem of Bianca and Carissa Aboubakare. Campbell Hall of North Hollywood’s Michelle Sulahian and Valencia of Placentia’s Stephanie Hammel are still alive in the other doubles semifinal and are scheduled to face Anaheim’s Catherine Isip, who trains with Ritz at the Weil Academy in Ojai, and Orange’s Kaitlyn Christian. email@example.com (818) 713-3607 160Want local news?Sign up for the Localist and stay informed Something went wrong.
